We offer a range of magnesium flat bar products in various grades and incremental sizes to suit your engineering applications. Typically magnesium is considered for applications where light-weighting, corrosion resistance and machinability are required.
Motorsport Applications
Motorsport is an obvious example as well as aerospace and automotive since the alloy performs well under incredibly stressful operating conditions with the added capability to withstand high temperatures (such as in racing engines). Structurally, the difference between magnesium plate and flat bar products is negligible – typically flat magnesium bar is 8 inches in width or less. Magnesium offers two-thirds of the density of aluminium.
Processing
Magnesium is very easy to process using sharp cutting tools since the cutting resistance of the alloy is significantly lower when compared to other alloys (only 10% when compared to steel). We take a considerable amount of care when processing magnesium as the material is potentially volatile and hazardous. Any exposure of magnesium dust to water could prove disastrous as in particle and chip form the alloy is highly combustible. We ensure that any generated dust is collected and stored safely before disposal.
We stock Magnesium Flats in a variety of grades.
